The Pittsburgh Penguins are the Stanley Cup Champions. From being on the outside of the playoff picture looking in back in December, they made a complete 180. It feels just like 2009.

The Penguins grabbed a few players from Canadian teams.

From the Canucks, they acquired Nick Bonino for Brett Sutter:

The Penguins grabbed Justin Schultz for a third round pick:

And the Leafs gave Tyler Biggs, Tim Erixon, and Phil Kessel for Kasperi Kapanen, Scott Harrington, Nick Spaling (who played for the Sharks in the Final), and a first round pick.

Congrats to the Cleveland Monsters on their Calder Cup Championship!

And to the Pittsburgh Penguins on their fourth Stanley Cup Championship and their second in JUST seven years.

It takes time to develop a dynasty that is the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2010, the Chicago Blackhawks ended their 52-year Stanley Cup Champion drought against the Philadelphia Flyers. In 2013, the Blackhawks defeated the Boston Bruins for their second Stanley Cup Championship in three years. Now it’s 2015, and the Hawks have won their third Stanley Cup in six years.

Captain Serious vs. Stammer

It’s Wednesday, June 3, 2015. The NHL Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning will commence shortly after 8 pm eastern time. From the Western Conference, the Chicago Blackhawks are led by a Winnipeg, Manitoba native who is looking to host his third Stanley Cup. From the Eastern Conference, the Tampa Bay Lightning are led by a Markham, Ontario native who is hoping to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup for the first time in his career. Both Jonathan Toews and Steven Stamkos are two outstanding hockey players that will be competing alongside their respective team for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Well isn’t this an inverse of Montreal’s first round series. The Canadiens were up 3-0 against the Senators in round one, and are now in an 0-3 hole in a conference semi-final matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

O Canada

C’est fini! The 2014-15 NHL season is finally over, and there is so much anticipation for five of seven Canadian teams this spring. While the Leafs and Oilers bottomed out in the league, and gained a probable top five draft pick, the other five Canadian teams pulled off an unlikely visit to the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
