What Do You Mean?

Jacob Trouba signed a two-year, six million dollar contract with the Winnipeg Jets after a holdout that felt like an eternity. The 22 year-old right shot defenceman drafted ninth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft ended the holdout with the Jets, for now. Trouba apparently asked for a trade out of Winnipeg last season because he wanted to play on the right side of defence within the top four. His trade request became public in September following the World Cup of Hockey, prompting a number of trade scenarios and questions of whether he likes the city of Winnipeg.

Trouba was expected to sign a contract similar to the contracts of Seth Jones, Justin Faulk, and Morgan Rielly. Instead, because of his holdout, he will still receive a pretty penny of three million dollars per season just the next two years. This is a tell-tale sign that he could be traded following the end of the bridge deal, or could receive a PK Subban-esque deal.
